Motor VFD Upgrade
Overview
ACE Engineers was responsible for upgrading the controls for 6 FVR motors to variable frequency drives (VFDs) in two production lines to improve the starting and stopping of conveyors carrying stock pallets. The system consisted of 2 ControlLogix L72 Allen Bradley PLCs and 755 drives. The project involved the modification of the PLC program, set-up of the 755 drives, creating demolition drawings, updating existing electrical and control drawings, and on-site start-up and debug.
Challenges/Solution
The previous system induced too much vibration when stopping and starting the conveyors which caused the pallets to fall off, creating a safety hazard.
Results
By upgrading the FVR motors to variable frequency drives the conveyors are now able to be started and stopped smoothly preventing the pallets from falling off.
